Garden Takes First Conference Series From Barton

    The Garden City Community College baseball team hosted Barton County Community College this past weekend for both teams conference opening weekend. Day one saw the Busters take both games from the Cougars by scores of 9-1 and 9-4. Game one saw sophomore starter Alex Ellison (Littleton, CO) go the distance, throwing the first complete game of the year. Ellison scattered eight hits over seven innings, while only allowing one run. Alex Kelly (Fort Collins, CO) had three RBI’s in the win. Game two was much of the same as Buster starter Todd Brazell (Peyton, CO) went eight innings, allowing only six hits to go with seven punch outs. Freshmen Cody Kottich (Omaha, NE) and Zac Baldini (Denver, CO) let the offense with three hits and three RBI’s respectively.

    Day two saw an offensive explosion from both teams. In game three the two clubs combined for thirty-four runs and thirty hits. Five Busters registered multi-hit games in the 19-15 victory. Barton County came out on top in game four with a 10-9 victory to salvage a game in the series for them. Freshmen catchers Cody Kottich and Luke Flanagan (Centennial, CO) registered multiple RBI’s in the contest for the Busters.

    Garden City will travel to Midwest City, OK to take on Rose State College in a non-conference doubleheader before jumping back into conference play. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00pm.
