The Garden City Community College baseball team traveled to Midwest City, OK on Wednesday to take on Rose State College in a non-conference doubleheader. The Busters came away with a split from the Raiders. Garden City dropped a tough 7-2 decision in game one. Starter Sam Thornton (Canberra, ACT) gave the Busters a quality start, but the Raiders took advantage of two Buster miscues to push across five of their runs in the win.

Garden City came out swinging the bats in game two. They scored three runs in the first three innings to take an early lead. The Raiders answered with four in the bottom half of the second inning followed by one more in the fifth. Freshmen Derek Krier (Salina, KS) came in to give the Busters 2 2/3 innings of quality relief. Garden tied it in the top of the sixth inning on a two out single and took the lead for good in the top of the ninth. This marks the first time the Busters have played an extra inning contest this spring. Tyler Rogers (Littleton, CO) picked up the win tossing four shutout innings out of the pen.

Garden will resume conference action as the travel to Dodge City, KS this weekend to take on the Conquistadors. Double headers for both days are scheduled for 1:05pm start time.
