Busters Start Season With A Sweep of National Champions

    The Garden City Community College men's baseball team started their 2011 season in impressive fashion by sweeping a doubleheader from the defending nation champions and current #1 ranked team in the nation, Iowa Western Community College Rievers. Game one saw Garden City take an 8-6 decision behind a solid outing by sophomore starter Alex Ellison (Littleton, CO). Sophomore Sam Thornton (Canberra, ACT) paced the offense with two hits. Tyler Rogers (Littleton, CO) came on in the 6th inning to record a 5 out save.

    Game two was on dominated by both starting pitchers. Freshman Todd Brazell (Peyton, CO) twirled six sterling innings in his college debut giving up only one run. The Busters carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth before they tacked on two more runs. Sophomore Alex Kelly (Fort Collins, CO) led the Buster with two hits. Tyler Rogers came on to earn his second save on the day, locking down a 4-2 victory.   

    The Busters will travel to Clarendon, TX tomorrow for a nine inning game. 1st pitch is scheduled for 1:00pm CST.
