About Garden City

Located along the Arkansas River, Garden City is a culturally blended city with over 125 years of history. Garden City and Finney County include a combined population of over 40,000 people.

There is always something going on in Garden City, and this includes live entertainment, bands, the Sequoyah 9 Cinema, rodeos, art exhibits, golf, racing, conventions and many annual and ethnic celebrations. Now ranked among the most popular tourist attraction in Kansas, Lee Richardson Zoo is home to more than 350 individual animals. Ranging from elephants to tigers, the zoo offers a wonderful variety of species.

If looking for a diamond in the rough, visit one of the excellent golf courses. Garden City offers two public courses, one of which is Buffalo Dunes, ranked by Golf Digest as one of the top 100 courses in the United States. Southwind Country Club, an 18-hole, private course, ranks in the top five in Kansas. The annual Southwest Kansas Pro-Am in August is conducted at these two exceptional courses.

Garden City is also known as a "sportsman's paradise" for its pheasant and deer hunting. With a lake at Scott State Park just up the road, it also offers fishing. Wildlife is plentiful. With Colorado just over an hour away, some of the world's best skiing is within a day's drive.
